Journal Jog route showcases Lorain landmarks

LORAIN — For the inaugural Journal Jog 5K run, 3K walk, it was important to find a route that showcased the city of Lorain. Race planners believe this has been accomplished.

Starting near the Black River, participants will run past historic building such as the Lorain Palace Theater and Lorain National Bank, past City Hall head down West Erie where they will be rewarded with spectacular views of Lake Erie as they head up to renovated Lakeview Park and return back to Black River Landing where a DJ will be on hand to help motivate runners to finish near the Transportation Center.

“The one thing about the route is that it very much hits all of the landmarks in Lorain,” event coordinator Jennifer Bracken said. “It is pretty exciting with it starting and ending at Black River Landing which definitely a gem for Lorain. It is just a really nice scenic route.”

Lorain Port Authority Director Rick Novak agrees.

“Not many areas that you involve in jogs have such a scenic route,” Novak said. “It’s nice, it’s clean and everyone that you bring down there is impressed by it.”

Novak believes people will be impressed with the beach at Lakeview Park.

“The Metroparks has done just a phenomenal job restoring the beach,” he said. “I think people will be very impressed. It’s fantastic.”

The race will take place Sunday morning, August 8. The flat route is expected to be fast. The city is working hard to make the surface safe to run on.
